The regualrly scheduled parent meeting for the 12th graders is cancelled. Our Herff Jones's representative had a conflict with his schedule. Please stay tune for an alternate day and time.
This week has flown by! I can't believe that it is already Wednesday. Tomorrow, November 20, 2014, AVID will host the last 11th grade parent class of 2014--"Cash for College"--in the library beginning at 6:00PM. Cerritos College will present a power point with resources for parents about the funding of college for your student. AVID students will bring home a bright colored flyer today for you to RSVP. In addition, the AVID Student Highlights to check out photos of the students while on the Cal State San Bernardino field trip. Thank you, Mrs. Moreau If you will join us on our trip to Cal State San Bernardino today, please attend first period, wear your shirt, and bring a lunch or money. We are leaving at 8:45. Calling all 10th Grade Parents: we are meeting for our second session of our grade level parent meetings. In addition to A-G requirements, we will also discuss 1st quarter grades and the process of probation. It is important that all -10th grades parents attend. Thank you for your support. Gahr High School invites you to our first Report Card Night in the gym beginning at 6:30 until 8:00PM. All teachers will be available for your concerns and questions. If you can not attend this event, the report card will be mailed home. AVID parents are invited to refreshments before the event in B3 beginning at 5:15. I will provide parents with a copy of the their student's report card, a handout to help maxamize the "conference time", and work on a plan to meet with the teachers (s) of concern. Please RSVP below: Attention all 9th Grade AVID Parents: How quickly the time flies!!! It is time for our second of four classes for 9th grade parents. We will meet in the library onThursday, November 6, beginning at 6PM. The focus of the session is review the 1st quarter grades and discuss how to better help your student this year. Mr. Moreau, the 9th grade AVID teacher, will be on hand along with students to assist with TRF's, Cornell Notes, and calendaring ideas for your student's success. AVID students will bring home a brightly colored flyer tomorrow. Please have your student return it to Mr. Moreau by Thursday, Nov. 3 or let me know through email that you will attend. What, if any, were some of the obstacles/challenges you faced in preparing for college? During college? 4. Who or what inspired you to make the decision to go to college? 5. What skills did you find were a must to get through college? 6. What would you have liked to know or have been able to do before getting to college? 7. How did your family emotionally support your college journey? 8. How important were communication skills, especially writing and speaking, in getting through college? 9. What skills from college have transferred to and added to your current professional success? 10. What advice would you give a young student beginning their path to college today? In addition, please share any aspect of your career that you feel is pertinent for our students and bring any artifacts or visuals that will show students what is entailed in your career. Please help our program by donating your gently used clothes to your AVID Elective Teacher. Each AVID Elective Class is participating in a class competition. Ms. Suzuki's class last year won. Donations will be accepted until 10/31.

AuthorAVID started at Gahr four years ago. Currently, we have over 150 students in programs from grades 9-12. The program is heavily based on WICOR strategies to assist our students in CORE academics.I have been the coordinator of AVID since the beginning and am currently teaching a 12th grade Senior Seminar class.
